Advice to parents

Get out and get a breath of fresh air in nature! What could be better than spending a day in the countryside with the whole family? So that your excursion to the woods and meadows is not disrupted by questions like "When will we finally arrive?", we have gathered some tips to help you maintain a good mood and avoid boredom.

Prepare your walk together
Involve your children in the planning. What entertains them? What do they like to do? Tell them about the place you are going to and what awaits them: forests, meadows, streams, rocks, etc. Show them the route on a map in advance. This way, they can get an idea of the walk beforehand.

Play & sing
Kids love to play and sing. In case of tiredness or boredom, encourage them to play or sing a song with you. You'll find some game suggestions in the Kids on Tour brochure. Object hunting is always a popular activity: collecting leaves is not only fun but can also give way to beautiful creations when they are dried.

Every walk is an adventure
Awaken your child's curiosity and bring accessories such as a magnifying glass, binoculars, a pocket knife that allow him to explore nature up close. Let him take photos. You can look at them together at home later.

Good shoes are essential!
Blisters on the feet are painful and can really spoil a walk. Protect the little feet from injuries by wearing sturdy hiking shoes that provide good support and stability.

Make sure you have the right clothes
Rain, cold, wind... shouldn't keep you from going out. On the contrary, different weather conditions besides radiant sunshine sometimes offer unforgettable memories. "Do you remember that time when we were surprised by a torrential rain and had to take shelter in that cave...?" There are clothes suitable for all weather conditions. Don't forget sun protection such as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen in sunny weather.

Backpacks for your children
A backpack will allow your kids to store the treasures they collect during the hike. Depending on their age, you can also add a colouring book, crayons, toys to keep them occupied on the way, a snack, their favorite stuffed animal.

Kids on Tour - Walking with kids - in East Belgium

Walks and activities with children

Not all children are enthusiastic about a walk at first go. However, when it becomes a discovery, things look very different.

"Edutainment" stands for the combination of entertainment and education and aims to increase the motivation to learn. The walks suggestions of the East Belgium Tourist Agency combine fun and variety, whilst encourageing children's desire to get outside and discover.

Animation to join in

The children are motivated to participate with the help of a treasure map of the tour. On all maps, photos indicate the directions so that the children can recognise the route on their own and are thus automatically integrated into the route planning. This is fun and promotes their sense of orientation. In addition, funny game suggestions and tricky quiz questions ensure that there is no chance of boredom on the way - fun guaranteed.

The new brochure contains 10 family-friendly tours that start at different locations. Each walk is provided with all the basic information such as tour length, altitude difference or suitability for prams.
